IOM and IMPACT Partner to Empower Sudanese Migrants and Refugees in Egypt

Cairo, Egypt – Impact for Community Development and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are excited to announce their partnership with funding by the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM). This partnerships aims to provide comprehensive services to Sudanese new arrivals (migrants and refugees) to Egypt, focusing on two aspects education and livelihood.

This will provide beneficiaries with the necessary knowledge, skills, and psychological and social support, which ensures a smooth transition to the work environment and career readiness. This occurs after going through the pre-evaluation stage, training time, and providing services to a comprehensive follow-up plan.

The first aspect of the program will focus on education supporting youth to transition back into education. Impact for Community Development and IOM will provide capacity building activities to adolescents and youth between the ages of 16-19 years and teachers at community schools. Youth are receiving English classes and life skills education.  Meanwhile, teachers at community schools received guidance and training to enhance the safety of their learning environments (trauma informed pedagogy).

The second aspect of the program will focus on livelihood by building the capacity of youth (ages 25 and up) and women on sewing and entrepreneurship.  This will enable migrants and refugees to set up their businesses and earn a reasonable income. This aspect of the program will contribute to both individual and community development by providing job opportunities and increasing their economic stability.

This partnership highlights the commitment of both organizations to support and empower the most vulnerable populations in Egypt. It will have a significant impact on the quality of life of migrants and refugees, providing them with the skills and opportunities needed to experience an improved quality of life.

"Partnerships enable us to empower the most vulnerable communities. We are pleased to work with Impact for Community Development in providing livelihoods and education support to Sudanese new arrivals in Egypt" said Carlos Oliver Cruz, Chief of Mission of IOM Egypt.

“As we strive to promote inclusive, sustainable development, we believe in the importance of partnerships and collaborations towards common goals. Our partnership with IOM is an essential step to help and empower vulnerable populations in Egypt,” said Peter Ramzi, CEO of Impact for Community Development.
