  • Migration Data & Peer Learning: Djibouti’s National Institute of Statistics visits Egypt’s CAPMAS

    5 August 2019, Cairo, Egypt - IOM facilitated a learning exchange visit for the Djibouti’s National Institute for Statistics (INSD) to the Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The primary focus of the learning exchange centered on CAPMAS’s innovative migration data unit and a recent national migration survey.

  • The Egyptian Office of Prosecutor General and IOM organize a Symposium on combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling

    Cairo, 24  July – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Egypt in collaboration with the Egyptian Office of Prosecutor General (OPG) organized last week a Symposium for Enhancing Knowledge and Cross Border Cooperation among African Prosecutors on combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling in Cairo. The symposium was attended by officials from the Egyptian OPG, twenty prosecutors from fourteen countries and technical experts.

  • Community Event Celebrating the World Day against Trafficking in Persons Brings 1,000 Migrants and Egyptians Together

    3 August 2019, Cairo – The International Organization for Migration in Egypt celebrated the World Day against Trafficking in Persons with a community event attended by more than 1,000 Egyptians and nationals from the Beninese, Eritrean, Ethiopian, Filipino, Iraqi, Kenyan, Liberian, Nigerian, Syrian, Somali, Sudanese, South Sudanese and Yemeni communities. Fellow UN agencies UNAIDS and the UN Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) participated with booths, giveaways, and informational materials on protection services and awareness-raising messages on trafficking in persons.

  • IOM and Partners Mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

    Cairo, 30 July 2019 – In celebration of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Egypt, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA) and the National Coordinating Committee for Combatting and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM&TIP) organized a reception at the premises of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. More than 100 members of the Egyptian and foreign governments, United Nations agencies and media professionals were in attendance.

  • IOM Egypt Organizes the First Charter Flight to Sudan for 114 Sudanese Migrants

    Cairo, 31 July 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Egypt organized this week a charter assisting 114 stranded Sudanese nationals in Egypt to  return home. The passengers included 18 families, single mothers, and more than 50 children, many of whom have been living in Egypt for several years. Those selected for the special charter return were of particular vulnerability.

  • Al Ahly Club and IOM Celebrate World Day against Child Labour

    Cairo, 2 July 2019 – Al Ahly Sports Club and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Egypt hosted an event at Al Ahly’s Nasr City Club in celebration of the World Day against Child Labour with the participation of The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). The event, which included a football tournament, screenings of anti-trafficking awareness-raising videos, and two health sessions, was attended by over 200 people, including Mr. Tareq Kandil and Mr. Mohamed Serageldin of Al Ahly’s board of directors.

    Migration remains at the top of policy agendas in many countries worldwide. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) and the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) recognize the need for reliable, disaggregated statistics on migration that are nationally relevant and internationally comparable. However still today, there is scarcity of basic data on international migration and existing data are not fully analyzed, utilized or shared.

Through their wide presence in online and offline media, and as Goodwill Ambassadors, Asser and Nelly will advocate for migrant rights, raise awareness on the positive impact of regular migration and the risks of irregular migration, while promoting safe, dignified and regular migration.

    Alexandria, 25 June – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Egypt, in coordination with the National Coordinating Committee to Combat and Prevent Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM&TIP) and the National Centre for Judicial Studies (NCJS) of the Ministry of Justice, organized a capacity-building training for 25 judges on counter-trafficking and smuggling.
