  • IOM and LaLiga Sign a Partnership to Tackle Discrimination and Trafficking in Sports

    Cairo, 21 March 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) signed a partnership with LaLiga, the Spanish top tier football league, under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports. The ceremony for the signing was held at the Fairmont Hotel and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Amr El Hadad, by IOM Egypt’s Chief of Mission, Mr. Laurent De Boeck, by LaLiga’s Official Delegate in Egypt, Mr. Juan Fuentes Fernandez, and many distinguished guests from the diplomatic community and the private sector.

  • IOM Organizes Community Event in Alexandria to Mark International Women's Day 2019

    Alexandria, 5 March 2019 – In celebration of International Women’s Day, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with the support of CARITAS and the Arkan Center, organized a community event in Alexandria, bringing together members of the Sudanese, South Sudanese and Yemeni communities to discuss women’s rights and empowerment.

    Building on the “I Know My Right” photography exhibition, IOM organized an interactive information session about women’s rights in which the participants discussed how they protect themselves from abuses and exploitation.

  • IOM and Partners Conduct Trainings on Counter Trafficking in Persons for Egyptian Prosecutors

    Cairo, 2 March 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and its partners, the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) and the National Coordinating Committee on Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM & TIP), have completed the second and third round of the series of trainings titled “Strengthening the Capacities of Prosecutors in Counter Trafficking in Persons”, on 16-17 February and 2-3 March 2019 in Cairo and Ismailia.

  • 41 Vulnerable Ethiopian Migrants Return Home to Ethiopia

    Cairo, 14 February 2019 - Upon the referral of the Embassy of Ethiopia and in coordination with the Government of Egypt, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) supported the return of 41 vulnerable Ethiopian irregular migrants, who were in governmental custody in Egypt. This initiative is funded by the European Commission and Italian Ministry of the Interior in the framework of the Regional Development and Protection Programme for North Africa – RDPP NA.

  • IOM Provides Income Generating Activities in Collaboration with Sandboxsu

    Cairo, 02 February 2019 – In the framework of its Regional Refugee Resilience Plan (3RP) project, funded by the Government of Japan, IOM implemented a two-week workshop, in close collaboration with Crown Consulting and the reputable jewelry designer Suhayla El Sheikh, founder of Sandboxsu Jewelry. Fifty-two Syrian and Egyptian women took part in an apprenticeship programme on creative thinking, jewelry making techniques, and skills for establishing and running a small business.

  • IOM Holds a Workshop on Irregular Migration Data for Senior Officials from the Egyptian Government

    Cairo, 12 February 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in collaboration with IOM’s Global Migration Data Analysis Center (GMDAC), delivered a workshop on Irregular Migration Data at the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

  • IOM and the Egyptian Ministry of Interior kick off a Training on Migration Governance for Law Enforcement Officials

    Cairo, 10 February 2019 –The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Interior, began a two-week training on passport examination, human trafficking and migrant smuggling in Cairo  for 18 Egyptian law enforcement officials. The training began with a week dedicated to counter smuggling and trafficking with special attention given to important practical topics pertaining to the investigation aspects. The second week is fully dedicated to passport examination.

    Cairo, 23 December 2018 – In the framework of IOM’s Initiatives for Local Development of Egypt through the Support of Egyptians Abroad (ILDEA) project, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (IADC), a closing ceremony was organized by IOM to celebrate the achievements of ILDEA.

  • IOM and the Italian Ambassador to Egypt Sign an Agreement for the Implementation of New Development Projects

    Cairo, 5 February 2019 – The Directorate General for Development Co-operation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) signed an Agreement for the implementation of the second phase of the “Initiatives for Local Development of Egypt through the support of Egyptians Abroad” (ILDEA) project, to be implemented by IOM.

  • IOM initiates its support to the Ministry of Manpower to upgrade Vocational Training Centers in Egypt

    Cairo, 4 February 2019 - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) partners with the Ministry of Manpower of the Arab Republic of Egypt to address youth employment in line with Egypt Sustainable Development Strategy – Vision 2030.
