Cairo, March 26 – To mark the International Day of Happiness, IOM Egypt launched its first edition of “Bring your Kids to Work” day initiative, staff members were invited to bring their kids to the office premises for the day. The day aimed at helping children learn and understand what their parents do at work in a dynamic and engaging manner. The event also introduced IOM’s work and basic migration concepts.

“The children had the opportunity to meet with the Regional Director, Ms. Carmela Godeau, as well as the IOM Egypt’s Head of Programmes, Mr. Laurent De Boeck, who highlighted the importance of the contributions made by their children’s parents. “One day you may be the ones that would be working for IOM” De Boeck said addressing the children.

My son enjoyed the day beyond my expectations. Every morning, Yassin asks to come to work with me. He wears his name tag all the time. He told everyone about his unforgettable exciting day”, says one of IOM staff member.

Some of the highlights of the event were a short presentation on the importance of environmental awareness, child friendly discussions on gender equality and equal access to opportunities, a child friendly Zumba session, a self-defense tailored simulation, and an arts session. The children received a certificate upon completion of their visit, as well as cake and a good-bye message. The initiative was organized by IOM Egypt’s Staff Association Committee in partnership with the Gender Focal Points. The initiative supports the accomplishment of UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 Quality Education; Goal 5 Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls; Goal 10 Reduced Inequalities and Goal 17 Partnerships for the Goals.
