UN Migration Agency (IOM) Egypt Celebrates the Conclusion of the 2nd Edition of the Certificate in Migration Governance
Cairo, 29 March 2018 – IOM Egypt, in partnership with the American University in Cairo’s Center for Migration and Refugee Studies, celebrated the conclusion of the 2nd Edition of the six-module Certificate in Migration Governance.
“Today, upon the completion of the second edition of this Certificate, we congratulate the officials of the Government of Egypt and the civil society representatives who graduate from this course and now have the tools to wilfully engage with migration and its many dimensions”, said Ms. Carmela Godeau, Regional Director for IOM MENA Office
This cohort is composed of 33 graduates representing 17 governmental and non-governmental institutions successfully completed the educational programme conducted by IOM experts and AUC professors. The previous edition of the certificate took place from October 2016 to May 2017, where 24 officials representing 12 institutions graduated.
“Studying Migration governance is extremely important, since migration is increasingly becoming a major direction for humanity as a result of the different causes driving people to move. Preparing ourselves to better deal with this global shared responsibility is a crucial task that we should all strive to achieve.” said Mr. Khaled Elazem of Fard Foundation, one of the participants
This initiative supports the Government of Egypt in its commitment to “elaborate and implement a comprehensive national and regional strategies on migration and mobility” (Action Plan of the Valletta Summit on Migration, Nov. 2015) as well as to become “a fair interdependent society characterized by equal economic, social, political rights and opportunities realizing social inclusion” by 2030 (Egypt’s Sustainable Development Strategy, Social Justice Pillar)
