UN Migration Agency (IOM) and CAPMAS Organize a Training Workshop for the Migration Data Analysis Unit on Capitalizing on Administrative Data Sources
Cairo, 11 April 2018 -The International Organization for Migration (IOM) organized a workshop on the use of administrative data for migration data collection and analysis for the Migration Data Analysis Unit (MDAU) at the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The selected officials were trained by IOM experts on the use of administrative registration and national and international statistical sources to produce reliable data on migration.
The Migration Unit was established in 2017 with IOM’s support, and continues to collaborate with IOM through capacity building activities to promote better migration data collection and analysis and serve decision makers on relevant policies.
The workshop is part of IOM’s intervention "Strengthening the Sphere of Protection for Victims of Trafficking and Vulnerable Migrants in Egypt while Preventing Irregular Migration and Human Trafficking (SPHERE)", which enhances national agencies’ capacities for effective and efficient response to human trafficking and irregular migration in Egypt.
The training workshop is in line with Sustainable Development Goals number 5 (Gender Equality) and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) with targets to “eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking, sexual and other types of exploitation” and “take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking”.
