Training of Trainers for Community Ambassadors in Dakahlia Governorate

Cairo, 3 October 2018 - IOM and its partners, the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) and the National Coordinating Committee on Combatting and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM & TIP), kicked off a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme with Community Ambassadors in Mansoura, Dakahlia Governorate. The participants were nominated by the Ministries of Social Solidarity, Youth and Sports, Endowment, Education and Technical Education, and Culture. The training equips the participants with innovative educational tools and interactive edu-tainment activities, such as games and role playing, to engage children and youth in discussing the dangers of irregular migration and positive alternatives.

The two-day training took place on 26 and 27 September and is part of a wider community outreach programme across Egypt in support of the Government’s efforts to reduce irregular migration. The programme targets the six highest sending Governorates in terms of irregular migrants, as identified by NCCPIM & TIP: Kafr Elsheikh, Behaira, Dakahleya, Gharbeya, Fayoum and Assiut. This programme is made possible by the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Kingdom Government.

The programme supports the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities, SDG 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals. It is also in line with the objectives of Egypt’s Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS): Vision 2030, particularly its social justice pillar.
