IOM Egypt Inaugurates Migration Health Assessment Centre
Cairo, 31 July 2016 - IOM Egypt has inaugurated the first independent migration health assessment centre (MHAC) to provide full health assessments to refugees going through the resettlement process of five main destination countries: United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
The centre will provide full health assessments including immunization and pre-departure medical screenings with presumptive treatment to all applicants based on each country’s relevant guidelines.
The purpose of the clinic is to provide full health assessments with immunization, pre-departure medical screenings and presumptive treatment administration to all applicants to be resettled to one of the afore-mentioned destination countries.
“MHAC has already secured medicals for some 750 Syrians that are going through the resettlement process to Canada ranking Egypt as the second country in the MENA region to reach the health assessment goal HA for all major countries,” said Dr Asma Nadeem, IOM Egypt’s Head of Migrant Health Division.
“Our plan is to expand our health assessment services to reach the population of self-payer migrants in Egypt,” she added.
Since January 2015 to date, IOM has conducted around 3200 health assessments for various countries, 4500 pre-departure medical screenings and 2900 presumptive treatment administrations.
