Cairo, 15 January 2019 – With the objective of informing and fostering discussion and partnership with the private sector, IOM Egypt, in collaboration with the UN Global Compact Network, invited representatives from a diverse set of companies, including Nestle and Orange Egypt, for a CEO Roundtable.

A variety of sectors where represented during the roundtable, such as academia, food production, travel & leisure, general industries, construction & materials, retail & distribution, community development, financial services, media, telecommunications and investment.

The first half of the meeting focused on informing the attendees on migration at large, IOM’s role aiding migrants and defining who is a migrant. Considerable attention was also given to identifying the challenges that migrants are facing and the opportunities they bring to countries and the private sector in the form of labor force and as consumers.

The second half of the meeting was dedicated to the Q&A session, which lead to an interactive discussion from the attendees. Many of the comments addressed the actions the private sector can take to collaborate with IOM. Special attention was given to the capacity of private companies to reach a large audience and shape the discourse. Discussion mostly focused on what tangible actions private companies can take to help the reintegration of migrants in Egypt.

Collaboration and partnership is an important role for IOM Egypt as it is in line with the United Nations’ Agenda 2030, specifically the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Goal 8 “Decent work and economic growth” and Goal 17 “Strengthening and revitalizing the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development”.
