IOM Egypt Concludes the First Edition of the Regional Certificate in Migration Governance and Celebrates the Graduation of 15 Officials from the Region
Cairo, 21 December 2018 – After the big success of the first two editions of the Certificate in Migration Governance that built the capacities of 57 governmental and non-governmental officials working on migration-related issues, IOM Egypt, in partnership with the American University in Cairo’s Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (AUC/CMRS) launched the first Regional edition for 15 participants.
Participants represent the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Labour Market Regulatory Authority of Bahrain, Ministry of Labour of Sudan, the Secretariat of Sudanese Working Abroad, the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration and the National Observatory on Migration in Tunisia, in addition to three participants from non-governmental organizations and international organizations.
The sessions, conducted by CMRS professors and IOM professionals, and different topics ranging from introduction to migration, migration and development, international migration law, counter-trafficking and smuggling, labour mobility and an overview of the recent updates on migration.

The Regional Certificate is relevant to Principle 3 of the Migration Governance Framework (MiGOF) “Good Migration Governance Relies on Good Partnerships”. It also supports SDG 10.7 “facilitate orderly, safe, and responsible migration and mobility of people, including through implementation of planned and well-managed migration policies” as well as SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals.
