IOM Egypt Concludes the First African-Union Edition of the Certificate in Migration Governance and Celebrates the Graduation of 23 Officials from the Region
Cairo, 14 November 2019 – Building on Egypt’s Chairmanship of the African Union, and under the guidelines of the Migration Governance Framework (MiGoF), IOM Egypt in partnership with the Egyptian Institute for Diplomatic Studies with the generous contribution of the Kingdom of Netherlands and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, launched the First African-Union Edition of the Certificate in Migration Governance from 10-14 November 2019, to build the capacity of Governmental and Non-Governmental actors working on migration related issues in the African region.
The main goals of the certificate is to support participants in becoming more aware of the multifaceted aspects of migration and the wide range of policy responses that can be considered in a comprehensive approach, to obtain analytical and practical capacities in dealing with migration, to enhance skills and knowledge in migration governance, to learn the latest insights and developments in strategic migration management, to network and share ideas with other participants, colleagues and stakeholders while obtaining an internationally recognized professional and academic qualification.
The modules covered a variety of topics such as an Introduction to Migration, Migration and Development, Labour Migration and Human Mobility, Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, International Migration Law/ International Refugee Law and Migration Management in Crisis.
Twenty-three participants representing various embassies, ministries and international organizations attended the training.
The African-Union Edition of the Certificate in Migration Governance supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Goal: 10.7 ‘facilitate orderly, safe, and responsible migration and mobility of people, including through implementation of planned and well-managed migration policies’ as well as Goal: 17 ‘Partnerships for the Goals’.
