IOM Egypt and the American University in Cairo Conclude the Second Edition of the Certificate in Migration Governance
Cairo, 12 September 2019 – Cairo, Following the great success of the first edition of the Regional Certificate in Migration Governance that took place in 2018, IOM Egypt and the American University in Cairo’s Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (AUC/CMRS) concluded the second edition of the certificate. Twenty-six governmental and non – governmental officials working on migration-related topics took part in the six-day training.
The certificate builds participants’ analytical and practical capacities in dealing with migration and enhances their skills and knowledge in migration governance.
Participants were representing the following institutions: Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Algerian Ministry of Solidarity, Algerian Ministry of Interior, Algerian Ministry of Health, Egyptian Armed Forces, Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egyptian Ministry of Manpower, Egyptian Ministry of Immigration, Egyptian Administrative Regulatory Authority, Egyptian Radio host and journalist, Labour Market Regulatory Authority of Bahrain, Bahraini Ministry of Interior, Supreme Council for Planning and Development of Kuwait, Sudanese Ministry of Welfare and Social Security and Sudanese NGO (People Legal Aid Centre) and IOM in Libya and Algeria.
The modules covered a variety of topics such as an introduction to migration, trafficking and smuggling of migrants, the Global Compact for Safe and Orderly Migration (GCM), migration and development, labour migration and human mobility and international migration and refugee laws. The sessions were conducted by CMRS and IOM experts.
The Regional Certificate in Migration Governance supports the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Goal: 10.7 ‘facilitate orderly, safe, and responsible migration and mobility of people, including through implementation of planned and well-managed migration policies’ as well as Goal: 17 ‘Partnerships for the Goals’.
