IOM and the Secretariat of Sudanese Working Abroad Discuss the Return Process of Sudanese Nationals in Egypt

Cairo, 14 March 2019 – IOM and the Secretariat of Sudanese Working Abroad (SSWA) had a two-day joint mission in Cairo on 12 and 14 March 2019, to explore available options for Sudanese nationals in Egypt who would like to return home with IOM assistance. The SSWA is a governmental institution mandated to coordinate the reintegration efforts for returning Sudanese nationals.

Meetings with Egyptian governmental counterparts were held to discuss a comprehensive approach to migration management. Another meeting was held between SSWA representatives and Sudanese community leaders to discuss possible challenges faced by some Sudanese nationals in Egypt.

The delegation visited the Embassy of Sudan to Egypt to discuss the pre-departure coordination and the support that IOM can provide to Sudanese nationals in need of assistance.

The orderly and voluntary return of migrants from Egypt  supports the achievement of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Goal 11: sustainable cities and communities by ensuring human and safe return and reintegration assistance to help migrants’ communities to start a dignified life in their country of return and Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities.
