Cairo, 2 March 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and its partners, the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) and the National Coordinating Committee on Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM & TIP), have completed the second and third round of the series of trainings titled “Strengthening the Capacities of Prosecutors in Counter Trafficking in Persons”, on 16-17 February and 2-3 March 2019 in Cairo and Ismailia.

In-line with the 3Ps + 1 Paradigm – prosecution, protection, and prevention plus partnership, the trainings strengthen the knowledge of Egyptian prosecutors in investigating and prosecuting trafficking in persons.

The training provides sessions on relevant international and national legal instruments such as the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime; its supplementary Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children; and the Egyptian CounterTrafficking Law 64/2010. The training covers also crime investigation, evidence collection, victim and witness protection safeguards among other areas. Through these trainings, the prosecutors are also given the chance to discuss practical case studies and best practices from national and international contexts.

The organization of these trainings was supported by the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The training contributes to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) namely Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals. The training series is also in-line with the objectives of Egypt’s Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS): Vision 2030, particularly its social justice pillar.
