IOM Egypt Distributes Blankets to the Migrant Communities as Part of the ‘Warm Alexandria‘ Initiative

Alexandria, 20 February 2020 - The International Organization for Migration has finalized the winter campaign in Alexandria, titled ‘Warm Alexandria’ by distributing 240 blankets to the Sudanese and Yemeni communities. In addition to the 480 blankets distributed to the South Sudanese and Syrian communities in Alexandria in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The European Union and IOM in Egypt Launch a Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration in North Africa

Cairo, 15 January 2020 - The International Organization for Migration initiated the launch for the European Union and IOM Joint Initiative for ‘Migrant Protection and Reintegration in North Africa’.

The Head of Migrant Protection and Assistance in IOM Egypt, Andrea Dabizzi, introduced the initiative to the Government of Egypt and the EU’s representatives with a review about the project activities in Egypt and its impact on the migrants and their host communities.

Cairo, 5 February 2020 – IOM Egypt and its national partners, the National Coordinating Committee on Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM & TIP) and the Ministry of Health and Population organized a training workshop for 17 doctors from eight governorates titled “Strengthening the Capacities of Healthcare Providers on Caring for Victims of Trafficking in Persons” on 5 & 6 February 2020.

IOM Egypt Holds Workshop for Judges on Counter Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants in Aswan

Aswan, 28 January 2020 - In line with the National Strategy on Combating Trafficking in Persons (2016-2021), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the National Coordinating Committee on Combatting and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM&TIP) and the National Centre for Judicial Studies (NCJS) organized a workshop on countering trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.

IOM Egypt and the Cairo Court of Appeal Launch the First Forum for Judges on Combating Human Trafficking

Cairo, 27 January 2020 - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Cairo Court of Appeal organized the first meeting of the newly established Forum of Judges on Counter Trafficking on 26 and 27 January 2020 in Cairo. The Forum aims at providing a space for in-depth interaction and dialogue between senior judges, who are employed in the ten specialized chambers for human trafficking cases housed in the eight Courts of Appeal in Egypt. The Forum focuses on court proceeding actions and steps towards enhancing existing practices and policies.

Second International Forum on Migration Statistics Calls for More Evidence-based Dialogue

Cairo – The second International Forum on Migration Statistics (IFMS) kicked off (19/01) in Cairo today. The Forum organized jointly by IOM, the UN Migration Agency, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) started on Sunday and has gathered more than 700 delegates from diverse backgrounds. It offers a unique space for dialogue, information-sharing and networking for a broad range of actors.

IOM Egypt Holds an Intensive Informational Event for Migrants in Alexandria

Alexandria, 19 December 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Egypt conducted an awareness-raising event for migrants from the South Sudanese, Syrian and Yemini communities at the Jesuit Cultural Center in Alexandria, Egypt. 170 migrants attended the event aiming at presenting IOM missions and the different services and protection assistance available, highlighting the risks linked to irregular migration and promoting best practices to fight counter trafficking. Awareness raising and care material have been distributed.

IOM APA Sign MoU for Cooperation in the Fight Against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons

Kigali, Rwanda, 2 December 2019 – The Africa Prosecutors Association (APA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Egypt, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen partnership between the two organizations on issues of mutual interest, particularly related to enhancing capacities to combat smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons.

IOM Egypt and the Office of the Prosecutor General Organizes Two Training Workshops for Public Prosecutors

Cairo, 11 November 2019 - IOM Egypt and the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG), in cooperation with the National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM & TIP), organized two training workshops for public prosecutors during 11- 13 November 2019 and 17 – 19 November respectively. The workshops focused on enhancing capacities of forty public prosecutors from different governorates of Egypt, on Investigating and Prosecuting the crimes of Migrant Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons.

IOM Egypt and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Celebrate the Launch of Regional Migrant Protection Assistance Programme

Cairo, 1 December 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission to the Arab Republic of Egypt launched the regional programme "Strengthening Protection and Assistance to Vulnerable and Stranded Migrants in and Transiting through North Africa (PROTECT II)", funded by the generous contribution of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The PROTECT II programme represents a continuation of the PROTECT I, which ended successfully in September 2019, and will operate in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt and Ethiopia.
