The Government of Egypt, the EU and Germany Launch a Programme to Strengthen Labour Migration Governance and Mobility, Implemented By ILO, IOM and GIZ

Cairo, 21-22 September - The Government of Egypt, Germany and the European Union launch the start of the programme “Towards a Holistic Approach to Labour Migration Governance and Labour Mobility in North Africa” (THAMM) in coordination with the implementing agencies International Labour Organization (ILO), International Organization for Migration (IOM) and GIZ in Egypt. Within the framework of this programme, a two-day "National Programming Workshop” was held to kick-start the implementation in Egypt.

IOM Conducts Trainings on Trafficking in Persons for Hotline Operators

Cairo, 15-24 September - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) conducted in partnership with the National Coordination Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons a series of trainings for 65 hotline operators from the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, the National Council for Women (NCW) and the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) on responding to reports of trafficking in persons (TiP) and case management.

In Response to COVID-19, IOM Egypt Continues Distributions of Food and Essential Items to Already Vulnerable Migrants in Alexandria, with Additional Awareness-Raising Sessions

Alexandria, 24 September - As IOM Egypt continues to provide food, financial, medical, and housing assistance to migrants, the Organization additionally arranged an awareness session for the Filipino community at Sacre Coeur Church in Alexandria to educate migrants on the different types of assistance that IOM Egypt provides.

Eritrean Child Is Able to Walk Again Thanks to IOM Egypt's Doctors

Cairo, 14 September - Jamila Mohamed, an Eritrean migrant, noticed early on that her son, Anas, was having difficulties walking. His motor skills were not developing the way a nine-year-old should. While in Eritrea, Jamila visited many doctors, but none could tell her what the medical condition that her son Anas suffered from, which severely affected his ability to use his legs, feet, and to walk. Doctors in Eritrea tried to diagnose Anas’ condition, and prescribed for him calcium supplementation.

IOM Egypt Continues Distributions of Food and Essential Items to Already Vulnerable Migrants in Alexandria in Response to COVID-19

Alexandria, 17 September 2020 - In response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, IOM Egypt continues to distribute food baskets to vulnerable migrants in Alexandria. Many of these migrants were already vulnerable prior to the pandemic and have lost their source of income due the lockdown. 

This distribution is a part of the ongoing #WeCare campaign, providing 200 food baskets to the Syrian community, bringing the total of food baskets distributed to 1821. Next week, another distribution is planned to distribute food baskets to Egyptian returnees in Alexandria.

IOM Egypt Facilitates the Capacity Building of the Primary Healthcare Sector in Giza Governorate Through Trainings of Healthcare Workers and the Donation of Medications and other Supplies to Primary Healthcare Units.

Giza, 27 July – IOM Egypt supported the primary healthcare sector in Giza Governorate in coordination with the Giza deputy Governor, Dr. Hend Abdelhalim, who communicated the needs of the Giza health directorate to IOM, in terms of the medications needed and recommended a list of healthcare workers to participate in the capacity building trainings. The donations included more than 8,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits; surgical masks and latex gloves, in addition to more than 22,000 strips and medications.

IOM Egypt Distributes Food and Essential Items to Vulnerable Migrants in Alexandria in Response to COVID-19

Alexandria, 27 Aug 2020 – In response to the novel coronavirus COVID-19, IOM Egypt continues to distribute food baskets to vulnerable migrants in Alexandria. This distribution provided 185 food baskets to the Yemeni community, bringing the total of food baskets distributed to 1421, with another distribution planned next week to distribute food baskets to the Sudanese community in Alexandria which will bring the total to 1621.
