  • IOM Egypt and the American University in Cairo Conclude the Third Edition of the Certificate in Migration Governance

    Cairo, 26 March 2019 – As part of its capacity building portfolio, which includes trainings for Egyptian officials from governmental and non-governmental agencies, IOM Egypt and the American University in Cairo’s Center for Migration and Refugee Studies celebrated the closure of the third edition of the Certificate in Migration Governance, which started in October 2018.

  • IOM Holds Training for Judges on Countering Trafficking and Smuggling in Ismailia

    Cairo, 21 March 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the National Centre for Judicial Studies of the Ministry of Justice of Egypt and the National Coordinating Committee on Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM & TIP), completed a series of eight trainings for judges on countering the crimes of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants since 2017. The most recent training was held in Ismailia from 19 to 21 March for 24 judges who serve in the Northern region of Egypt.

  • IOM Egypt Organizes Bazaar with Future University in Egypt to Celebrate International Women’s Day 2019

    Cairo, 27 March 2019 – In celebration of International Women’s Day, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the Future University in Egypt (FUE), and with the support of Tadamon, organized a bazaar for migrant women with small businesses.

  • IOM Egypt Celebrates Giza Governorate’s National Day by Providing Medical Equipment to Al Haram Hospital

    Giza, 31 March 2019 - IOM celebrated the Giza Governorate National Day Centenary by donating medical equipment to the emergency department and intensive care units at Al Haram Hospital. The equipment will be used to enhance the hospital’s capacity and ensure broader access to health care services. Through this donation, both migrants and Egyptian patients will have improved access to emergency life-saving interventions.

  • IOM Holds a Training Workshop for Egyptian Media Personnel on Reporting on Trafficking in Persons

    Cairo, 19 March – The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in coordination with the Government of Egypt’s National Coordinating Committee for Combatting and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM&TiP), conducted a two-day training in Cairo for Egyptian media personnel on reporting on trafficking in persons. The training focuses on improving the knowledge of media professionals on trafficking in persons and related ethical considerations.

  • IOM and the Secretariat of Sudanese Working Abroad Discuss the Return Process of Sudanese Nationals in Egypt

    Cairo, 14 March 2019 – IOM and the Secretariat of Sudanese Working Abroad (SSWA) had a two-day joint mission in Cairo on 12 and 14 March 2019, to explore available options for Sudanese nationals in Egypt who would like to return home with IOM assistance. The SSWA is a governmental institution mandated to coordinate the reintegration efforts for returning Sudanese nationals.

  • IOM and LaLiga Sign a Partnership to Tackle Discrimination and Trafficking in Sports

    Cairo, 21 March 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) signed a partnership with LaLiga, the Spanish top tier football league, under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports. The ceremony for the signing was held at the Fairmont Hotel and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Amr El Hadad, by IOM Egypt’s Chief of Mission, Mr. Laurent De Boeck, by LaLiga’s Official Delegate in Egypt, Mr. Juan Fuentes Fernandez, and many distinguished guests from the diplomatic community and the private sector.

  • IOM Organizes Community Event in Alexandria to Mark International Women's Day 2019

    Alexandria, 5 March 2019 – In celebration of International Women’s Day, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with the support of CARITAS and the Arkan Center, organized a community event in Alexandria, bringing together members of the Sudanese, South Sudanese and Yemeni communities to discuss women’s rights and empowerment.

    Building on the “I Know My Right” photography exhibition, IOM organized an interactive information session about women’s rights in which the participants discussed how they protect themselves from abuses and exploitation.

  • IOM and Partners Conduct Trainings on Counter Trafficking in Persons for Egyptian Prosecutors

    Cairo, 2 March 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and its partners, the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) and the National Coordinating Committee on Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM & TIP), have completed the second and third round of the series of trainings titled “Strengthening the Capacities of Prosecutors in Counter Trafficking in Persons”, on 16-17 February and 2-3 March 2019 in Cairo and Ismailia.

  • 41 Vulnerable Ethiopian Migrants Return Home to Ethiopia

    Cairo, 14 February 2019 - Upon the referral of the Embassy of Ethiopia and in coordination with the Government of Egypt, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) supported the return of 41 vulnerable Ethiopian irregular migrants, who were in governmental custody in Egypt. This initiative is funded by the European Commission and Italian Ministry of the Interior in the framework of the Regional Development and Protection Programme for North Africa – RDPP NA.
