  • IOM Egypt Holds an Intensive Informational Event for Migrants in Alexandria

    Alexandria, 19 December 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Egypt conducted an awareness-raising event for migrants from the South Sudanese, Syrian and Yemini communities at the Jesuit Cultural Center in Alexandria, Egypt. 170 migrants attended the event aiming at presenting IOM missions and the different services and protection assistance available, highlighting the risks linked to irregular migration and promoting best practices to fight counter trafficking. Awareness raising and care material have been distributed.

  • IOM APA Sign MoU for Cooperation in the Fight Against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons

    Kigali, Rwanda, 2 December 2019 – The Africa Prosecutors Association (APA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Egypt, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen partnership between the two organizations on issues of mutual interest, particularly related to enhancing capacities to combat smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons.

  • IOM Egypt and the Office of the Prosecutor General Organizes Two Training Workshops for Public Prosecutors

    Cairo, 11 November 2019 - IOM Egypt and the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG), in cooperation with the National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM & TIP), organized two training workshops for public prosecutors during 11- 13 November 2019 and 17 – 19 November respectively. The workshops focused on enhancing capacities of forty public prosecutors from different governorates of Egypt, on Investigating and Prosecuting the crimes of Migrant Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons.

  • IOM Egypt and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Celebrate the Launch of Regional Migrant Protection Assistance Programme

    Cairo, 1 December 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission to the Arab Republic of Egypt launched the regional programme "Strengthening Protection and Assistance to Vulnerable and Stranded Migrants in and Transiting through North Africa (PROTECT II)", funded by the generous contribution of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The PROTECT II programme represents a continuation of the PROTECT I, which ended successfully in September 2019, and will operate in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt and Ethiopia.

  • IOM Assists 133 Sudanese Migrants to Return to Their Home Country

    Cairo, 28 November 2019 – Today, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Egypt assisted 133 Sudanese migrants – 85 males and 48 females, including 95 adults and 38 children – to return to their country of origin through its assisted voluntary return and reintegration programming.

    IOM collaborated closely with the Embassy of Sudan in Egypt and with local authorities in Sudan to arrange a charter flight under the European Union (EU) funded EU-IOM Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration in North Africa (EU-IOM Joint Initiative).

  • IOM Egypt Concludes the First African-Union Edition of the Certificate in Migration Governance and Celebrates the Graduation of 23 Officials from the Region

    Cairo, 14 November 2019 – Building on Egypt’s Chairmanship of the African Union, and under the guidelines of the Migration Governance Framework (MiGoF), IOM Egypt in partnership with the Egyptian Institute for Diplomatic Studies with the generous contribution of the Kingdom of Netherlands and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, launched the First African-Union Edition of the Certificate in Migration Governance from 10-14 November 2019, to build the capacity of Governmental and Non-Governmental actors working on migration related issues in the African region.

  • 259 Resettled Refugees from Egypt Arrive in Germany

    Cairo, 10 October 2019 – Two-hundred fifty-nine refugees departed from Cairo to Hannover in Germany on a charter flight with International Organization for Migration (IOM) support. This is the second charter flight; the first charter took place on 11 September 2019 with 246 refugees on board.

    The resettled group comprised refugees from Syria, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia. Among the group were 78 children and 16 infants.

    Geneva – Emmy-award winning British actress and activist against human trafficking, Julia Ormond, and Egyptian actor, writer and film producer Asser Yassin have added their marquee names and expertise in migration, film-making and visual storytelling to IOM’s 2019 Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF).  

  • IOM Egypt Secures Phase II of Regional Programme for the Protection of Vulnerable and Stranded Migrants

    Cairo, 7 October 2019 - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been responding to the increasingly complex and diverse migration context across North Africa through the provision of voluntary return and reintegration to stranded migrants, protection and humanitarian services for vulnerable groups—particularly unaccompanied and separated children (UASCs), victims of trafficking (VoTs), advocacy for protection mechanisms and collaboration networks with governments.

  • IOM Egypt Conducts Capacity Building Trainings for Migrant Community Leaders in Alexandria

    Alexandria, 25 - 26 September 2019 - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Egypt held two days of capacity building sessions on a variety of pressing issues at the request of Syrian community leaders. While leaders from the Yemeni, Sudanese and South Sudanese communities in Alexandria and the North Coast had received training previously in response to needs and requests, this was the first of such activities for the Syrian community in this area.
