  • IOM Egypt Secures Phase II of Regional Programme for the Protection of Vulnerable and Stranded Migrants

    Cairo, 7 October 2019 - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been responding to the increasingly complex and diverse migration context across North Africa through the provision of voluntary return and reintegration to stranded migrants, protection and humanitarian services for vulnerable groups—particularly unaccompanied and separated children (UASCs), victims of trafficking (VoTs), advocacy for protection mechanisms and collaboration networks with governments.

  • IOM Egypt Conducts Capacity Building Trainings for Migrant Community Leaders in Alexandria

    Alexandria, 25 - 26 September 2019 - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Egypt held two days of capacity building sessions on a variety of pressing issues at the request of Syrian community leaders. While leaders from the Yemeni, Sudanese and South Sudanese communities in Alexandria and the North Coast had received training previously in response to needs and requests, this was the first of such activities for the Syrian community in this area.

  • IOM Egypt and the American University in Cairo Conclude the Second Edition of the Certificate in Migration Governance

    Cairo, 12 September 2019 – Cairo, Following the great success of the first edition of the Regional Certificate in Migration Governance that took place in 2018, IOM Egypt and the American University in Cairo’s Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (AUC/CMRS) concluded the second edition of the certificate.   Twenty-six governmental and non – governmental officials working on migration-related topics took part in the six-day training.

  • IOM Egypt Trains Forensic Experts on Passport Examination Procedures

    Cairo, 15 September 2019 - IOM Egypt organized two trainings on passport examination procedures for the Egyptian Forensic Medicine Authority (EFMA). The training accommodated 49 forensic experts from seven governorates.

    The six-day trainings were facilitated by Mr. Nelson Goncalves, Immigration and Border Management (IBM) Training Specialist from IOM’s African Capacity Building Centre in Tanzania. Participants acquired in-depth and hands-on experience on passport examination, using verification equipment to identify forged and counterfeit documents.

  • More Than 240 Refugees Resettled from Egypt to Germany

    Berlin, 11 September 2019 – Two-hundred forty-six refugees arrived safely in Hannover, Germany on a charter flight from Egypt with International Organization for Migration (IOM) support. 

    The resettled group comprised refugees from Syria, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia. Among the group were 64 children and nine infants.

  • Mission’89 and IOM Egypt Sign a Partnership to Tackle Trafficking in Sports

    Cairo, 26 August 2019  Mission’89 and The International Organization for Migration (IOM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to kickstart their collaboration.

    IOM is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits both migrants and society and Mission’89 was set up to uphold the 1989 United Nations Rights of the Child, with the specific aim of ending trafficking of children in the name of sport.

    Cairo, 28 August 2019 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Egypt and the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) organized a roundtable discussion that aimed at exchanging knowledge on corporate responsibility, responsible recruitment and business practices with prominent Egyptian private sector representatives.

  • "100 Million SIHA”; WHO, UNHCR and IOM Organize Screening for Hepatitis C to Increase Refugees' Awareness

    Under the Umbrella of “100 Million SIHA”; Ministry of Health and Population in coordination with WHO, UNHCR and IOM are together initiating and leading several health awareness sessions together with multiple medical screening campaigns for early detection and management of Virus C for Egypt’s guests of migrants and refugees in several governorates; Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Damietta and Al Qalyubia.

    5 August 2019, Cairo, Egypt - IOM facilitated a learning exchange visit for the Djibouti’s National Institute for Statistics (INSD) to the Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The primary focus of the learning exchange centered on CAPMAS’s innovative migration data unit and a recent national migration survey.
