Egypt Ranks Top Sending Country of UMCs to Italy

Cairo, 12 June 2016 – A total of 1,815 Egyptian irregular migrants arrived in Italy including 1,147 (78%) UMCs from January to May 2015, ranking Egypt as the tenth top sending country of irregular Egyptian migrants to Italy, top sending country of UMCs.

IOM Fears 320 Migrants Missing in Mediterranean as Deaths Approach 3,000 in 2016

Italy - IOM reports an estimated 206,400 migrants and refugees entered Europe by sea in 2016 through 5 June. Fatalities in the Mediterranean in 2016 are nearly 1,000 more than last year’s mid-year total.
