  • Third edition of the Global Migration Film Festival comes to Cairo

    Cairo, 14 November 2018 – The International Organization of Migration is hosting its annual Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) from 28 November to 18 December 2018. Designed to pave the way to broaden discussions on migration within the wider public, the movies cover topics common on migration, such as Labour Migration, Border Management and Children on the Move. For 2018, the overall theme is “The Promise and Challenge of Migration, and the Positive Contributions Migrants Make to Their Communities”.

    Cairo, 28 October 2018 – After two successful editions where 57 officials graduated, IOM Egypt and the American University in Cairo (AUC)’s Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) launched the third edition of the Certificate in Migration Governance (CMG) at the AUC Tahrir campus.

  • IOM Egypt launches first Environmental Art Day for Children

    Cairo, 1 November 2018 –  IOM Egypt launched its very first Environmental Art Day for children. This event was organized by IOM’s Environmental Working Group (EWG) and the Staff Association Committee (SAC)  for Syrian children and their mothers to come to IOM Egypt’s office and share an afternoon of art and fun with IOM staff.

    Geneva – IOM, the UN Migration Agency, has released a new guide for government actors involved in implementing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as they relate to migration. Migration and the 2030 Agenda: A Guide for Practitioners, published on 09 October, aims to help policymakers integrate migration into local and national development planning.

  • IOM Libya Organizes First Charter Flight to Ethiopia with a Stopover in Egypt

    Libya, 28 September 2018 - On Monday 24 September, IOM, the UN Migration Agency organized its first charter to Ethiopia from Libya’s Zintan airport, with a stopover in Egypt for 177 stranded migrants. With the current unpredictable security situation and limited international flights following the closure of Tripoli’s Mitiga airport, IOM managed to plan a stopover in Alexandria, with the support of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to assist an additional 60 Egyptian migrants stranded in Libya to return home.

  • Training of Trainers for Community Ambassadors in Dakahlia Governorate

    Cairo, 3 October 2018 - IOM and its partners, the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) and the National Coordinating Committee on Combatting and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM & TIP), kicked off a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme with Community Ambassadors in Mansoura, Dakahlia Governorate. The participants were nominated by the Ministries of Social Solidarity, Youth and Sports, Endowment, Education and Technical Education, and Culture.

  • IOM Egypt Trains Forensic Experts on Passport Examination Procedures

    Cairo, 20 September 2018 - IOM and the Forensic Medicine Authority (FMA) organized a training from 18 to 20 September for 25 forensic experts from 7 different Egyptian governorates on passport examination procedures in order to support front line border management, law enforcement and prosecutors.

  • Government of Egypt and UN IOM Support Expatriate Engagement in Italy

    Cairo– The Ministry of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs (MoSEEA) and IOM held a workshop with Egyptians residing in Italy to discuss mechanisms for their involvement in the implementation of small-scale local community development projects in Egypt on 14 July in Milan, Italy. The workshop was organized in cooperation with the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Milan, with the participation of H.E. the Egyptian Consul General, Egyptian expatriates from various private, academic and development fields, and representatives from MoSEEA and IOM.
