  • IOM Egypt Concludes the First Edition of the Regional Certificate in Migration Governance and Celebrates the Graduation of 15 Officials from the Region

    Cairo, 21 December 2018 – After the big success of the first two editions of the Certificate in Migration Governance that built the capacities of 57 governmental and non-governmental officials working on migration-related issues, IOM Egypt, in partnership with the American University in Cairo’s Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (AUC/CMRS) launched the first Regional edition for 15 participants.

  • IOM and Partners Hold Closing Event of the Community Outreach Programme

    Cairo, 20 December 2018 - Under the auspices of the National Coordinating Committee on Combatting and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM&TIP), IOM and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) celebrated the implementation of the Community Outreach Programme on Irregular Migration. The programme raised awareness about the risks of irregular migration among children aged 12-18 in the six highest sending Governorates of irregular migrants, as identified by NCCPIM&TIP: Kafr Elsheikh, Behaira, Dakahleya, Gharbeya, Fayoum and Assiut.

  • IOM Organizes a Community Event in Alexandria to Mark the International Migrants Day 2018

    Alexandria, 22 December 2018 - To honor the over 1 billion migrants around the world, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) held a community event to mark the International Migrants Day 2018 and celebrate the contributions of migrants to their host communities and communities of origin. This day was also an occasion to remember and commemorate the migrants who lost their lives on their journey in search of a better life.

  • IOM Organizes Sessions for Women Empowerment

    Cairo, 12 November 2018 - IOM Egypt has organized two sessions under Women in Leadership initiative on 22nd July and 12th November 2018. The objective of this initiative is to inspire staff through examples of women in leadership positions. The two pilot sessions included Carmela Godeau, Regional Director IOM MENA and Blerta Aliko, Country Representative, UN WOMEN Egypt as guest speakers.

    Cairo, 13 December 2018 – IOM Egypt hosted a baby shower for more than forty recent mothers and mothers-to-be from the migrant community. The event was organized by IOM Egypt’s Migrant Assistance and Protection Services team to address the needs of a growing number of pregnant beneficiaries approaching IOM.

  • Star-studded Award Ceremony for Global Migration Film Festival in Cairo

    Cairo – Today, on International Migrants Day, the Global Migration Film Festival draws to a close at the historic Al-Manial Palace in Cairo, Egypt, culminating the most successful edition held so far. 

    A truly worldwide festival run by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with United Nations Information Centres worldwide, it has already seen 558 screenings take place in 161 cities and over 103 countries, a number that is up 50 per cent from last year.

  • IOM Egypt Supports the Resettlement of Refugees from Egypt to Portugal

    Cairo/Lisbon, 17 December 2018The UN Migration Agency (IOM Egypt) and the Embassy of Portugal successfully facilitated the resettlement of 33 refugees of several nationalities such as Syrian, Somali, Sudanese and South Sudanese from Egypt to Portugal. A group of 26 individuals boarded a flight from Cairo on the 17th of December, transited in Frankfurt and landed in Lisbon. While another group of 7 individuals traveled on 18th of December, transited in Istanbul and landed in Lisbon, Portugal.

  • Monitoring Visit to Five Local Community Development Projects in Assiut

    Assiut, 12 November 2018 – In the framework of IOM’s Initiatives for Local Development of Egypt through the Support of Egyptians Abroad (ILDEA) project, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, a visit to monitor the progress of implementation of the initiatives implemented by NGOs was organized by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development (MSMEDA) to gain insights on the quality of the interventions and provided services.

    Cairo, 14 November 2018 – The International Organization of Migration is hosting its annual Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) from 28 November to 18 December 2018. Designed to pave the way to broaden discussions on migration within the wider public, the movies cover topics common on migration, such as Labour Migration, Border Management and Children on the Move. For 2018, the overall theme is “The Promise and Challenge of Migration, and the Positive Contributions Migrants Make to Their Communities”.
