    Cairo– To mark the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, the International Organization for Migration organized a community event on Saturday 28th of July in close collaboration with the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) and Tadamon at the Swiss Club in Imbaba.

    The National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Person (NCCPIM&TIP), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) organized a reception to mark the World Day against Trafficking in Persons on July 30th, 2018. The reception also celebrates the opening of the NCCPIM & TIP’s newly renovated offices, and the launching of the Blue Heart Campaign against trafficking in persons in Egypt.

  • Government of Egypt and UN IOM Support Expatriate Engagement in Italy

    Cairo– The Ministry of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs (MoSEEA) and IOM held a workshop with Egyptians residing in Italy to discuss mechanisms for their involvement in the implementation of small-scale local community development projects in Egypt on 14 July in Milan, Italy. The workshop was organized in cooperation with the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Milan, with the participation of H.E. the Egyptian Consul General, Egyptian expatriates from various private, academic and development fields, and representatives from MoSEEA and IOM.

  • IOM Continues to Support the Migration Data Analysis Unit at the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS)

    Cairo - The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in collaboration with IOM’s Global Migration Data Analysis Center (GMDAC), delivered a workshop on Internal Migration, Urbanization and an Introduction to IOM Displacement Tracking Tool (DTM) to the Migration Data Analysis Unit (MDAU) at the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on 15-16 of July, 2018.

  • Virtual Return Activity to Engage Egyptian Expatriates Held by the Ministry of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs (MoSEEA) and UN Migration Agency (IOM)

    Cairo- In the framework of IOM’s Initiatives for Local Development of Egypt through the Support of Egyptians Abroad (ILDEA) project, the Ministry of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs (MoSEEA) held a video conference on 26 June 2018 with Egyptian expatriates to discuss mechanisms for facilitating knowledge exchange on the design and implementation of local community development projects in Egypt.

  • Representatives from 38 embassies discuss IOM Egypt services

    Cairo - IOM welcomed embassy representatives to a roundtable held to discuss services available to migrants and plans for future engagement. During the roundtable, IOM presented its migrant protection and assistance services, including briefing on localized assistance, assisted voluntary return and reintegration (AVRR) and health services. IOM further outlined the eligibility criteria for these services and how migrants can access them.

  • Capacity Building Training for Law Enforcement on Countering Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants

    Cairo – IOM facilitated a capacity building training on counter-trafficking and smuggling in Cairo, Egypt from June 24 to June 28 for officials from the Horn of Africa region. Around thirty law enforcement professionals composed of immigration/border management, police and legal departments from Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Tunisia took part in a four-day training delivered by IOM’s Special Liaison Office to the African Union and the African Capacity Building Center based in Moshi, Tanzania.

  • UN Migration Agency Supports the Government of Egypt to Tackle Human Trafficking

    Cairo/Brussels – IOM, the UN Migration Agency, facilitated a counter-trafficking study visit to Brussels, Belgium for nine Egyptian officials from 6 to 11 May, 2018, in coordination with the IOM Country Office for Belgium and Luxembourg. The objective of the visit was to familiarize the delegation with counter-trafficking coordination arrangements in Belgium and victim protection mechanisms.

    Cairo– In the framework of IOM’s Initiatives for Local Development of Egypt through the Support of Egyptians Abroad (ILDEA) project, the Egyptian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) signed contracts on 14 May 2018 with five non-governmental organizations (NGO) that were selected to implement small-scale, local community development projects in the Assiut Governorate.

    Cairo –Representatives from the Embassy of Japan in the Arab Republic of Egypt and International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN Migration Agency, visited Watan for Culture and Social Development, an NGO operating principally in 6th of October area of Cairo.

    IOM partnered with Watan during the implementation of past interventions to improve access to quality education and health for Syrian refugees and host communities in 6th of October.
